Located in the municipality of Odivelas, in Ramada and Caneças, the Anta das Pedras Grandes Park is integrated into the Bairro dos CTT, also known as Casal Novo. Its position in a residential area grants it practical accessibility for the locality's residents and visitors. This green space represents a meeting point between the millennial antiquity of the dolmen and the contemporary urban landscape.

Neolithic Legacy

The central element of the park is the Anta das Pedras Grandes, a megalithic monument dating back to the late Neolithic period, with origins dating back over four thousand years. Classified as a National Monument since 1944, this dolmen is a rare example of a prehistoric burial chamber in the area. Its original structure included a polygonal chamber, supported by imposing stone orthostats that could reach about three meters in height, and a short access corridor. Archaeological investigations at the site revealed traces of a tomb and the presence of human bones, as well as flint fragments, suggesting that the area was used for tool production. It was the archaeologist Carlos Ribeiro who first identified this site in 1880.

A Space for Gathering and Contemplation

Inaugurated in 2018, the urban park surrounding the Anta das Pedras Grandes covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters. The landscape recovery project aimed not only to preserve this valuable heritage but also to make it understandable to the public; the fallen orthostats were re-erected to offer a clearer view of the megalith's original architecture. In addition to its historical and cultural value, the park provides a serene and welcoming environment, equipped with pergolas and resting areas that invite relaxation and observation, in a setting that harmonizes nature with one of the oldest evidences of human presence in the region.
