The Palácio Anjos, a notable cultural hub, is situated in Baixa de Algés, in Algés, a vibrant area within the municipality of Oeiras. Its location allows for easy exploration of Algés' urban surroundings, offering a distinct point of interest in the heart of the locality.
Built in the late 19th century, around 1875/76, this building was originally known as Chalet Miramar. It was conceived as a recreational estate and summer residence for the family of Polycarpo Pecquet Ferreira dos Anjos, an influential Lisbon merchant. This architectural example represents one of the first constructions erected from scratch in the municipality of Oeiras with the specific purpose of a holiday home.
In the 1980s, Palácio Anjos and its annexed lands were acquired by the Oeiras City Council. This acquisition marked the beginning of a new phase, where the palace was restored and adapted for public use, consolidating its cultural vocation. In 2005/2006, the building underwent a profound intervention, with a view to housing an art-dedicated center.
Currently, Palácio Anjos functions as a Contemporary Art Centre, dedicated to raising awareness and stimulating public interest in modern and contemporary art. The space regularly hosts various exhibitions, presenting a wide range of plastic expressions, including art and photography.
With its continuous programming, Palácio Anjos promotes reflection and debate on the different aspects of cultural creation. It thus establishes itself as a relevant factor for the sociocultural development of the community, providing an inspiring environment for those seeking to explore the current artistic landscape.
