The Rio da Costa Urban Park is located in Odivelas, within the Bairro Olaio area and adjacent to the Quinta da Memória Urbanization. It is situated in a predominantly residential area, serving as an important green lung that integrates into the local urban fabric.

Origin and Purpose

The creation of this space had a fundamental objective related to the management of the Rio da Costa. Its development aimed at the hydric regularization of the river and its banks, through the installation of buffer zones that contribute to the reduction of flow and protection against potential floods. This functional dimension is intrinsically linked to its conception as a park, harmonizing engineering with the natural landscape.

Natural Environment

With an area of approximately three hectares, the park stands out for its natural component. Particular attention was given to the planting of riparian vegetation, which plays a crucial role in stabilizing the riverbanks and attracting various species of avifauna, promoting local biodiversity. A variety of trees can be observed, such as jacarandas, poplars, ash trees, willows, and alders, enriching the landscape.

Paths and Facilities

The Rio da Costa Urban Park offers various opportunities for visitors to enjoy the space. There are several rest areas and tables with benches, ideal for moments of relaxation. The presence of a bio-healthy fitness circuit and a children's playground invites the practice of outdoor activities. The park is also crossed by various pedestrian paths and features river crossings, which prove to be privileged locations for nature observation and tranquil walks.
