The Wine Museum Centre is located in Barqueira, an area of the town of Sobral de Monte Agraço, in the municipality of the same name. This location is part of a territory historically associated with wine production, which gives the museum a natural context and a direct link with the region's winemaking tradition.
This museum centre is housed in an old winery, a building that was restored and enhanced by the municipality. The aim of this intervention was to preserve an important cultural testimony, given that vines and wine represent one of the most emblematic activities in local history. The conversion of this rural space into an exhibition area allows visitors to understand the daily life and practices of yesteryear.
Inside, the presence of a lever press winepress stands out. Although no longer in operation, this winepress constitutes a valuable example of the region's rural architectural forms, symbolising the winemaking methods that marked generations in the municipality.
Since 1992, the Wine Museum Centre has presented a continuous exhibition of agricultural tools and implements. This permanent collection aims to document the methods and techniques used in vine cultivation and winemaking over time.
Through the ethnographic objects on display and the very atmosphere of the site, visitors can explore the memory of an activity that, in its time, was the municipality's main economic source. The pieces illustrate various stages of production, demonstrating how artisanal methods, in light of modernity, were true innovations for their time.
