The Amadora Municipal Museum of Archaeology is located in the area known as Porcalhota, integrated into the urban landscape of the city of Amadora. It is situated on Rua Direita de Queluz.
Its location within the urban fabric reflects its proximity to residential areas and local commerce, characteristic features of this part of the municipality.
This cultural space is dedicated to preserving and disseminating the historical and archaeological heritage of the Amadora region. The museum is the result of decades of research work in the territory.
Through its collections, it is possible to glimpse the human occupation in the area that today constitutes the municipality of Amadora, from remote times to more recent periods of its history.
In the museum's rooms, visitors can discover material remains that bear witness to the life of communities that inhabited this territory throughout different eras. The collection includes pieces ranging from Prehistory to the Roman period, passing through the Iron Age and the Visigothic era.
In addition to archaeological artifacts, such as tools, ceramics, and jewelry, the museum also addresses the evolution of the city of Amadora itself, its urbanization, and more recent cultural development, extending its focus until the mid-20th century.
The Amadora Museum, within which this core is integrated, has as its mission the in-depth study of the territory, collecting and preserving not only archaeological finds but also documents and memories that help tell the story of the local community. This continuous work of research and safeguarding contributes to the valorization and dissemination of Amadora's rich heritage.
