The Montes Claros Viewpoint is located on the southwest slope of the Monsanto Forest Park, in the locality of Ajuda, municipality of Lisbon. This spot offers a unique environment, away from the city bustle, providing an immersion in the green area of the park and ensuring an atmosphere of tranquility.
This place has its roots in a project conceived in the mid-1930s by architect Francisco Keil do Amaral. Originally, the structure was intended to be a tea house, integrating into a vast landscape complex that included an extensive garden and a central lake. The design of the space aimed for harmonious coexistence with the surrounding nature and the enhancement of the views. Although the initial purpose of the old tea house has evolved, its original conception and integration into the natural environment remain central elements of the site.
The Montes Claros Viewpoint invites a stroll through its garden, marked by the presence of a lake and a stone pergola. The place preserves a remarkable serenity, ideal for moments of rest and contemplation. Despite the growth of the park's vegetation over the years having modified some perspectives, the space continues to offer points of interest for the visitor.
From a descending trail at the end of the garden, it is possible to see the mouth of the Tagus River, towards Cova do Vapor. The viewpoint also provides a panoramic view over parts of the city of Lisbon and, in certain areas, glimpses of the Serra de Sintra, consolidating its identity as an oasis within the urban landscape.
