Location and Overview

Located in the locality of Cercal, in the municipality of Cadaval, the Cruz Salvé Rainha Viewpoint is situated at an elevated point in the Serra de Montejunto mountain range. This site offers a vast panorama over the surrounding landscape. From there, it is possible to observe the village of Pragança, the extensive agricultural fields that characterize the region, and a considerable part of the municipality of Cadaval.

Its isolated position, halfway up the slope, provides a broad perspective, allowing an unimpeded view over the horizon and, in particular, over the ancient Castro de Pragança, a striking feature in the landscape.

The Wayside Cross

The central point of the viewpoint is a wayside cross, a religious structure of remarkable simplicity and beauty. The cross, which dates back to the 20th century, is composed of a quadrangular wooden base, upon which rests a parallelepiped plinth. This plinth culminates in a truncated pyramidal top, which serves as a support for the cross.

The cross is of the Latin type, characterized by its lobed arms, and the entire structure is plastered and painted white, giving it a distinct presence at the summit.

This viewpoint maintains its original function as a place of worship and reflection. As a wayside cross, it serves as a point of reference and contemplation for those who pause there.
