The Loures Riverside Path stretches along the right bank of the Tagus River, crossing the areas of Santa Iria de Azoia, São João da Talha, and Bobadela, in the municipality of Loures. Its position allows for a new approach by the population to the beauty of the estuary, opening the municipality's doors to the Tagus in an unprecedented way. This pathway provides a fluid and continuous connection, offering a unique perspective on the riverside landscape of this metropolitan area.
This infrastructure represents an important milestone in connecting urban spaces with nature. For the first time, Loures significantly turns towards the river, offering those who traverse it an opportunity to observe the estuary's ecosystem. The project aims to strengthen the community's connection with its river, valuing the environmental and scenic heritage that the Tagus offers in this region.
With an extension of approximately six kilometres, the Loures Riverside Path is mainly composed of wooden walkways. These were designed to harmonise pedestrian and cyclopedestrian access, ensuring enough space for a peaceful coexistence among different users. Along the route, there are fourteen bridges and fourteen tunnels that provide shade, complemented by autonomous luminaires powered by photovoltaic cells, ensuring a pleasant and safe journey.
Those who explore this path can enjoy direct contact with local fauna and flora, particularly the species that inhabit the Tagus estuary. There are several bird observation points and rest areas, equipped with benches, inviting a pause to contemplate the landscape. This leisure and mobility environment allows for a peaceful stroll at the end of the day or during the weekend, bringing visitors closer to the interface between land and water, and promoting well-being through contact with nature.
