Located in the parish of Loures, on the outskirts of Lisbon, this palace is one of the most notable estates in the region.
The palace was built during the reign of King John IV and has undergone several renovations over the years.
Formerly known as Mata das Flores, it was the residence of the Mata family, linked to the office of Correio-Mor (Postmaster General) of the kingdom.
It stands out for its rich decoration in stucco, tiles, and paintings, which reflect the opulence of the time.
In 1875, it was acquired by Quirino Luís António Lousa, who made significant improvements, both in the decoration of the palace and in the gardens.
After the death of the last owner, Maria da Assunção Lousa Canha, the palace was sold, with approximately 20 hectares of land.
In 1967, the palace was classified as a Property of Public Interest, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
The palace was the setting for important events, such as a reception for the Duke of Edinburgh in 1973, with demonstrations of equestrian art.
After the Carnation Revolution in 1974, the property was managed by the State and was abandoned for almost 20 years, without maintenance.
The location has been used as a set for television productions, including the series "O Processo dos Távoras" and "Equador".
The Palácio and Quinta do Correio-Mor are places of great interest for those who appreciate Portuguese history, architecture, and culture.
