The Garden of Japan is located in the Belém area, in Lisbon, extending close to the bank of the Tagus River. This green space is integrated into an urban area, next to the Riverside Promenade, offering a perspective over the waterfront.

A Bond of Friendship Between Cultures

Inaugurated in 2004, this garden was conceived as a lasting landmark of friendship between Portugal and Japan, symbolizing the union and diplomatic relations between the two countries. A commemorative plaque, dated 2011, marks this special connection, reinforcing its cultural and historical significance.

Elements of the Japanese Landscape

With an area of 5,200 square meters, the Garden of Japan exhibits distinctive characteristics of Japanese landscaping. Here, one finds small, carefully designed grassy mounds and winding loose gravel paths, which invite a tranquil walk. One of the most striking elements are the 461 cherry trees, or "sakura", planted on site, which contribute to the authenticity and beauty of this space, especially notable during the flowering period.

Despite its contained size, the Garden of Japan offers a serene environment and a true refuge in the heart of the Belém area.
