The Lago da Preta is situated in Tapada do Mouco, in Sintra, in a western area of Pena Park. It is found near the end of the Sete Pinheiros path, close to the road leading to Lago de Cascais.
The surroundings combine a gentle slope covered with pine and oak trees with slight changes in terrain, offering a tranquil perspective over the valley that stretches towards Cruz Alta.
Surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, the lake reflects the trunks of pine trees and the undulating forms of the slope. The water comes from a nearby spring, which maintains a stable level and ensures a gentle whisper of the ever-present current.
A variety of shrubs and mosses grow around it, lending the place a fresh and verdant appearance even on the hottest days.
The circular tank is lined with macadam and fed by a stone fountain, where the supports that once held sculpted globes are visible. The water flows from a small side reservoir, evidencing the ingenious ancient channeling.
Next to the lake, a crescent-shaped bench invites rest, while a birdhouse, affixed to a nearby trunk, adds a touch of liveliness to the ensemble.
There is a second stone bench, discreetly positioned facing Cruz Alta, offering an intimate refuge to contemplate the falling afternoon.
The combination of the sound of water, the soft chirping of birds, and the arrangement of the built elements creates a serene atmosphere, ideal for those seeking a moment of peace away from the more frequented circuits.
