Located in the parish of Carnide, in the city of Lisbon, Jardim Teixeira Rebelo is integrated into the vast Largo da Luz. It is a green space that fits into the urban environment, delimited by a wide promenade paved with traditional Portuguese cobblestones, inviting a tranquil stroll around the garden.
This garden stands out for its romantic-inspired design, characterized by softly contoured paths and curvilinear flowerbeds that create a welcoming atmosphere. One of the most distinctive elements is the presence of water, with a small stream that flows naturally, emptying into an organically shaped lake.
The banks of the lake and stream are delineated by rustic-looking stones, evoking a natural landscape. Along the gravel paths, wooden benches offer moments of rest, and some concrete bridges, designed to resemble wooden logs, cross the watercourse, enhancing the stroll.
Jardim Teixeira Rebelo displays a variety of plant species that contribute to its vibrant atmosphere. One can find grassy areas alternating with shrub patches like junipers and agapanthus.
Various trees punctuate the space, including imposing magnolias and yuccas. Of particular note are two trees of the species Erythrina crista-galli L., classified as being of public interest, which add special botanical value to the site. The banks of the stream and lake are further adorned with ivy, asparagus ferns, and bird-of-paradise plants, highlighting the natural beauty and diversity of the flora.
At the southern edge of the garden, in a square adjacent to the lake, stands a commemorative monument to the Military College. This stone structure, with its cross-shaped base, pays an enduring tribute to Marshal António Teixeira de Rebelo, the founding figure of that military institution.
The inscriptions engraved on the monument's faces, Merit, Loyalty, and Valor, convey the principles and values associated with the history of the Military College, offering a glimpse into the institution's legacy and the city's memory.
Inaugurated in 1926, Jardim Teixeira Rebelo, also popularly known as Jardim da Luz, has served as an important public recreation area and meeting point for the local community and visitors to Carnide. The garden underwent renovation works in 2013, ensuring its preservation.
The space features areas with tables and benches, suitable for outdoor leisure moments. At the northern end of the garden, a kiosk blends into the environment, complementing the visitor's experience in this pleasant Lisbon garden. Its location in Largo da Luz associates it with the old and traditional Feira da Luz (Light Fair), one of the historical symbols of the area.
