The Pulido Garcia Garden is located in the Restelo area of Lisbon, a predominantly residential area known for its tranquility. This green space is situated near Avenida Ilha da Madeira, fitting discreetly into the urban landscape of the municipality.
This garden is a tribute to José da Orta Cano Pulido Garcia, a central figure in the creation and development of the green spaces of the Portuguese capital. As a forest engineer and agronomist, Pulido Garcia dedicated a large part of his career to the city of Lisbon, being primarily responsible for the installation and maintenance of many of its parks and gardens over several decades.
His vision and work significantly shaped Lisbon's green landscape, ensuring the city had landscaped areas for public enjoyment. The garden was named in his honor in 1985, a few years after his death, perpetuating his legacy in the place where his name is engraved.
Although it is a space of modest dimensions, the Pulido Garcia Garden offers an atmosphere of calm and serenity. It functions as a small green refuge in the middle of the urban area of Restelo, inviting a pause and a moment of relaxation. Its design reflects the care taken in integrating greenery into city life, a principle that Pulido Garcia himself so strongly advocated and practiced in his extensive work in Lisbon.
It is a place that, by its very existence and the name it bears, symbolizes the importance of nature in the urban environment and the continuous effort to enrich urban quality of life through landscape planning. Its presence complements the experience of the area, offering a spot for rest or a brief moment of contemplation.
