This green space is located in the Lumiar parish, within the urban area of Telheiras, in Lisbon. Specifically, it is situated on Rua Professor Francisco Gentil, in an essentially residential area. Its configuration allows for a smooth transition between different urbanizations, offering an environment of tranquility, ideal for those seeking a moment of pause away from the fast pace of the city.
Inaugurated in 2008, this garden was designed with an area of 6,700 square meters, paying homage to Professor António de Sousa Franco. Its architecture is distinguished by its sobriety and the modern lines that define its elements. The traditional Portuguese pavement complements the overall aesthetic, creating a fusion between tradition and contemporary design that characterizes the place.
The garden is a true "green lung" in the locality, mostly covered by grass and densely wooded. Here, one can find palm trees of different sizes and ages, olive trees, and a variety of other tree species that contribute to the landscape's richness. Two artificial lakes, positioned at the ends, add a serene touch to the scenery. The space invites visitors to linger, with areas suitable for reading a book or having picnics. It also features the distinctive element of urban vegetable gardens, reflecting sustainable land use.
One of the most striking features of the garden's design is the iron pergola, which crosses it from end to end. This structure is enriched by climbing plants that cascade from its top, creating a harmonious and inviting image. A functional and unique detail is the garden benches, designed to be foldable, allowing each visitor to adjust their perspective, choosing between the view of the street or the interior green environment of the garden.
