The Butterfly Garden is located in Ajuda, next to a gentle slope covered with pine trees. It is bordered by a cement wall on one side and spontaneous vegetation on the other, creating a tranquil haven in the middle of the city.
From above, one can see the green canopies of the pine trees and, on clearer days, the light filters through the gaps in the leaves, painting the ground with patches of shadow and sun.
This space hosts various species of native plants and flowering shrubs that attract different types of butterflies. The soft-colored flowers offer nectar to insects and create delicate movements, almost like small choreographies in the air.
Around, lower herbs complete the ensemble, providing a natural habitat for small organisms that enrich the local ecosystem.
The paths are covered with beaten earth, without major interventions, which reinforces the feeling of closeness to nature. Stone or wooden benches placed along the route invite pauses and contemplation.
The slightly inclined topography offers distinct viewpoints, where one can appreciate the contrast between the dry ground and the green outline of the trees.
The atmosphere is calm, broken only by the soft flutter of butterfly wings and the whisper of leaves. It is a suitable place to observe small-scale wildlife and feel the intimate connection between plants and insects.
Visitors can enjoy a moment of pause, accompanied by the erratic flight of these lepidoptera, in a setting that escapes the urban noise.
