This garden was conceived to honor the memory of Augusto Monjardino, a prominent figure in medicine and Portugal's political history. An exceptional obstetrician, he was the founder and first director of the neighboring Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital, an institution to which he dedicated twenty years of his life, from the project phase to its realization and management. His work also extended to academia, as a Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, and to the public sphere, having served as a deputy and vice-president of the Constituent National Assembly of 1911. The garden, inaugurated in 2011, thus perpetuates his vast contribution to public health and the Portuguese Republic.
