The Mother Church of Moita dos Ferreiros is located in the town of Moita dos Ferreiros, in the municipality of Lourinhã. It is situated in the heart of this village, occupying a central place in its urban fabric. Moita dos Ferreiros is set within a landscape of the West coast, a few kilometers from the sea, characterized by cultivated fields and expanses of woodland, giving it a predominantly rural and tranquil setting.
This church is dedicated to Our Lady of Conception, the patron saint of the parish, and its construction dates back to the 17th century. Throughout its history, the Church of Moita dos Ferreiros was, in ecclesiastical terms, linked to the jurisdiction of the prior of Saint Peter of the village of Óbidos, evidencing its ancient roots in the region. Its construction is associated with the figure of Veiga Rego, and over the years, the parish also benefited from the support of local notables, such as José Maria da Silva Rego, popularly known as "the Miner", whose charitable actions extended to aiding the community and its temple.
The church presents an architecture that reflects the simplicity and robustness typical of religious constructions of its era. With sober lines, the building stands out in the main square of the village, serving as a landmark and a point of reference for its inhabitants. It is a testament to the history and faith of the community, remaining a place of contemplation and a symbol of Moita dos Ferreiros' identity within its rural surroundings.
