Heritage of the Lines of Torres Vedras

This fort, built in the 19th century, is an element of the renowned Lines of Torres Vedras, a vast strategic defensive system. Constructed around 1810, the Forte Pequeno da Senhora da Ajuda was part of the second line of fortifications. Its function was to support the defense of Lisbon against the Napoleonic invasions, having been designed to house a garrison of approximately 200 soldiers and artillery. It played a complementary role to the neighboring Forte Grande da Senhora da Ajuda.
