The Neptune Fountain is located right in Saldanha, one of Lisbon's central and most organized areas. It can be found in the Largo de Dona Estefânia, a square that serves as a link to several important city avenues. The surrounding environment is characterized by buildings with period architecture, lending a classic and symmetrical air to the urban space, ideal for a tranquil break in the city center.
At the heart of the fountain stands the imposing figure of Neptune, the Roman god of the seas. Represented in his usual majesty, he holds the trident, a symbol of his dominion over the waters. The presence of the statue lends a mythological and grand touch to the public space, inviting a moment of contemplation of classical art within Lisbon's urban context.
Although currently associated with Largo de Dona Estefânia, the Neptune Fountain has its own path in Lisbon's history. It was not always in this location; previously, it adorned another square in the city. This change reflects the urban transformations that Lisbon has experienced over time, making the fountain a silent witness to these evolutions in the Portuguese capital's urban landscape.
