Located in the locality of Ribamar, in the municipality of Lourinhã, the Museum Space is situated in the Sobreirinhos area. A Maritime Legacy

This cultural space is a meeting point with the heritage associated with fishing, a central activity in Ribamar's identity. Through a carefully compiled ethnographic archive, the museum aims to preserve and share the collective memory of fishermen, their traditions, and knowledge passed down from generation to generation. It is a place that allows visitors to understand the deep relationship between the community and the sea, exploring the challenges and richness of coastal life.

An Old School with New Life

The building housing the Ribamar Museum Space has its own history, which enriches the visit. In the 1920s, this site functioned as a shipyard, where vessels that set sail were built and repaired. Later, in 1929, the same building was transformed into Ribamar's first primary school, becoming a center of learning for the community's children. Today, this Fishermen's Old School gains new life as a hub for cultural and historical dissemination.

Journeys and Memories

Upon exploring the museum, visitors will discover different areas that illustrate daily life and the knowledge associated with fishing. The Sea Orientation Room, which previously served as the teacher's accommodation, invites discovery of the techniques and instruments that guided fishermen on their maritime journeys. In turn, the Fishermen's Room, once the classroom, displays artifacts and testimonies that narrate the stories and experiences of those who dedicated their lives to the ocean.
