The Pillory of Enxara dos Cavaleiros is located in the village of Enxara dos Cavaleiros, in the parish of Enxara do Bispo, which belongs to the municipality of Mafra, in the district of Lisbon.
This monument is classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1933, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
It is believed that the pillory was built in 1519, the date when D. Manuel granted the charter to the locality.
During the 1940s and 1950s, the monument was dismantled and replaced by a well.
In 1969/70, the square was rehabilitated and the pillory was reinstalled in its original place, erected on a base of three octagonal steps, possibly from the 16th century.
The pillory has a shaft divided into three distinct parts. The lower part is larger and shows traces of decoration, while the upper part is smaller and may be original.
The middle section has a different finish, resulting from a more recent reconstruction. The original finial, which existed in 1951, was not reinstalled.
The pillory is a place of interest for visitors who want to learn about the history and culture of the region, in addition to being a great spot for photos and walks around the village.
