Location

The Carnide Bandstand is located in a peculiarly named area called Alto do Poço, in the heart of the Carnide urbanisation, in Lisbon. At this point, the old Rua Direita naturally widens, creating an irregular and elongated space that is now widely known as Largo do Coreto de Carnide. This welcoming square serves as a local landmark, marking one of the centres of the neighbourhood's community life.

Its History

The construction of the Carnide Bandstand, dating back to the year 1929, represented a significant moment in the urban evolution of this area of Lisbon. Before its construction, the site where the bandstand now stands was an informal space used for a small market of horticultural products. The introduction of the bandstand transformed the environment, giving the square a more organised appearance and a more defined urban identity, thus becoming a fundamental element in the daily life and memory of Carnide.

Features and Design

This bandstand features solid construction and an appealing design, characteristic of leisure structures of the era. It is built with ashlar, a rocky material that gives it robustness and remarkable durability. Its hexagonal shape is one of its architectural particularities, ensuring a harmonious presence in the space. At the top, its covering is supported by an iron structure, which not only offers protection but also contributes to its elegant silhouette and timeless charm.
