Cheleiros was a municipality until 1855, with a charter dating from 1195.
The pillory was located in the Square, in the lower part of the village.
Only some fragments exist, such as the shaft in the church and the top in the House of the Senate.
Made of limestone and iron, with a sphere surrounded by iron bars.
It was a symbol of authority and now represents local culture.
A resident protected the sphere on their property.
Fragments are scattered, including one in the Cheleirense Recreational Society. The pillory is a landmark of the parish's cultural heritage.
