The Jardim da Quinta Alegre is located in the Charneca area, a zone of Lisbon that offers a more serene and predominantly residential atmosphere. Situated on the outskirts of the city, it is specifically within the Santa Clara parish.

Its location is notable for its proximity to the Lisbon Airport runway, giving it a distinctive geographical position on the urban periphery of the Portuguese capital.

History and Origin

This green space occupies the former grounds of the historic Quinta Alegre. This place was once known as the Quinta dos Marqueses do Alegrete, a name that evokes its noble past and its importance as a private property.

The garden project's main objective was to create a leisure and social area for the local population, transforming an old private property into a public garden accessible to all.

Landscape Design and Structure

The Jardim da Quinta Alegre presents itself as a vast triangular area, dominated by an extensive lawn surface spanning approximately 24,500 square meters. Its entire perimeter is densely treed, creating a natural and visual boundary for the space.

Inside the garden, various trails invite strolls, tracing both straight and winding paths, always accompanied by the shade of the trees. These avenues connect different points of interest, such as a dedicated children's area, a small outdoor amphitheater, and a bandstand. In the center of the garden, a circular landscaped area with its own unique design also stands out.

Although integrated into Lisbon's urban fabric, the Jardim da Quinta Alegre offers a remarkable environment of tranquility and spaciousness.
