The Entrecampos Fountain is located in the city of Lisbon, more precisely in the Campo Grande area, within the parish of Alvalade. This central and visible location places the fountain at a point of passage and urban conviviality, integrated into a square environment that invites observation of city life and a pause in the rhythm of the metropolis.
Dating back to 1851, the Entrecampos Fountain was built on the initiative of the Lisbon City Council, reflecting an era when fountains played a crucial role in the public water supply and in the daily life of the city. Its construction is part of a period of urban modernization, where the availability of potable water at strategic points was a priority for the population, marking an advancement in urban comfort and hygiene.
Architecturally, the Entrecampos Fountain reveals a design that, while referring to the model of the Intendente Fountain, is distinguished by a more simplified upper finish. It is characterized by a parallelepiped volume, which gives a solid and balanced presence to the ensemble. This main body is flanked by simple pilasters, which add verticality and elegance to its structure.
Its facade also integrates classic elements such as triglyphs, decorative details that, despite the general simplicity of the design, visually enrich its appearance and underline an influence of classical architecture that was common at the time of its construction.
