This wall was erected after 1640 to protect Ribeira Beach and the town of Cascais.
The wall was situated on the beach and defended the cove, together with the Forte de Santa Catarina (Fort of Saint Catherine).
In 1873, the Casino da Praia (Beach Casino) was built on top of the wall, which previously had warehouses and a military terrace.
The casino closed in the 1940s and was demolished, but its history is still part of Cascais' heritage.
