Located in the Avenidas Novas area of Lisbon, this house-museum is a place of cultural and historical interest.
Built between 1904 and 1905 by the architect Norte Júnior, Casa Malhoa initially served as the residence and studio of the famous painter José Malhoa. It received the Valmor Prize in 1905 for its architectural beauty and has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1982.
The building stands out for its original and harmonious facade, composed of three distinct parts. The large central window was the artist's studio, while the decorative elements include stained glass of French origin and a wrought iron gate.
The museum houses approximately 3,000 works of art, including Portuguese painting from the 19th and 20th centuries, Chinese porcelain, and furniture. There are also collections of goldsmithing, sculpture, ceramics, and textiles.
The museum was opened to the public in 1980 and underwent renovations to expand its exhibition area. In 1997, Casa Malhoa was expanded with the annexation of a neighboring house, offering new areas for exhibitions, a shop, and a cafeteria.
The Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves House-Museum is an important space to appreciate the art and history of Lisbon, reflecting the life and work of Portuguese artists.
It is a perfect place for those who appreciate art and want to learn a little more about the history of the city and its artists.
