Casa da Guia is located in the Guia area of Cascais, in a privileged position that serves as a bridge between the village of Cascais and the Guincho area. Built on a cliff, this location offers a wide and breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean. Its extensive gardens follow the coastal path, extending to the vicinity of the Guia Lighthouse.
This place has its roots in a 19th-century mansion, built in 1895. It was built at the initiative of the Marquis of Rio Maior, who intended it for his wife, who was ill at the time, in the hope that the sea air would benefit her health. Although it did not fulfill this original mission, Casa da Guia served as a family residence for about a century. In 1999, the mansion underwent a recovery and renovation project that allowed it to be opened to the public.
The central building of Casa da Guia is a mansion that has been carefully restored, maintaining its original design and charm. It is immersed in a vast green space, consisting of two hectares of gardens. Its setting on the cliff gives it an exceptional landscape framing, where architecture integrates harmoniously with the surrounding nature. The environment is largely marked by its proximity to the sea, allowing visitors to enjoy the immensity and beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.
Since its opening to the public, Casa da Guia has become a reference point in Cascais, being a sought-after location for leisure and social gatherings. The mansion houses a variety of shops and an art gallery, offering a diverse experience. Outdoors, visitors can enjoy pleasant esplanades and an amphitheater. This set of features contributes to its role as a dynamic meeting point and for the promotion of cultural activities.
