The place known as Moinho da Forca is situated on a strategic elevation, at the entrance to the village of Cadaval, in the locality of Adão Lobo. This area, an integral part of the municipality of Cadaval, benefits from a position that offers wide perspectives over the surrounding landscape, particularly over the neighboring mountain ranges.
Integrated into the area that inherited its name, Moinho da Forca, despite its proximity to a national road, offers a serene environment, inviting exploration and enjoyment of nature in an urban context.
Moinho da Forca dates back to a time when a windmill stood on this very hill. This old building was demolished in the late 1940s to make way for the construction of a water reservoir, thus losing part of its original structure.
The name "Moinho da Forca" (Windmill of the Gallows) holds a mystery, with two theories for its origin: the first suggests the existence of a gallows on the site in times past, while the second points to a road fork nearby. The gallows hypothesis is considered the most probable, adding a touch of symbolism to the history of the place.
Today, the Moinho da Forca space is a pleasant outdoor meeting and leisure spot. It has been redeveloped to offer conditions for social gatherings, featuring tables, benches, barbecues, and an oven, ideal for picnics and small events with family or friends.
Despite its history of transformation, the place retains its natural charm, providing ample space to enjoy the quietness and fresh air. From the summit of this elevation, a remarkable panorama unfolds, with views extending over the Serra de Montejunto and the Serra de Todo o Mundo, making it an idyllic setting for contemplation and photography.
