The Mocho Mills Trail (Green) is located in the Benfica area, in Lisbon, integrated into the vast green expanse of Monsanto Forest Park. This location offers direct contact with nature within the capital's urban perimeter. Its position, despite being close to residential areas, allows for immersion in an environment dominated by dense vegetation, characteristic of the mountains.
Along this trail, one finds the memory of two very old mills, whose origin dates back to a period when they played a crucial role in supplying flour to the city of Lisbon, a function that continued until the late 18th century. By the late 1930s, these ancestral structures were adapted and integrated into the creation of an observatory, becoming a point of interest within Monsanto Forest Park. Although time has left its mark on the preservation of the mills, their presence continues to evoke the region's rural history.
The Mocho Mills Trail (Green) is an invitation to explore a natural environment. The landscape here is dominated by the exuberance of the forest, with the presence of trees, shrubs, and various plants shaping the scenery. Although the panoramic view that once extended over the South slope of Monsanto to the Tagus River is largely hidden today by the dense vegetation, the place retains its charm through its various forest trails. These paths invite moments of tranquility, with the possibility of enjoying the fresh air and the sounds of nature, offering some wooden benches that provide a place to rest.
