The statues are granite pieces dating back to the 1st century BC, which places them at the end of the Lusitanian era, before the complete Romanization of the Iberian Peninsula.
These statues were discovered in 1785 in the Castro de Lesenho, located in Montalegre, an ancient fortification dating back to the Iron Age.
They represent warriors, standing out for their imposing size with heights of 2 and 2.5 meters. The warriors hold shields in front of their bodies, highlighting the importance of protection and warfare in Lusitanian culture.
Since 1910, these pieces have been classified as a National Monument, recognizing their historical and cultural value.
Initially, they were exhibited in the Ajuda Botanical Garden, but since 1911, they have been part of the collection of the National Museum of Archaeology in Lisbon, where they can be visited.
