The Municipal Forest Park of Serra da Carregueira is located in the Rio de Sapos area, in the locality of Queluz and Belas, part of the municipality of Sintra. This green space is close to urban areas, offering easy access to nature and integrating into the landscape as a soft boundary between construction and the natural environment of the mountain range.

A Comprehensive Natural Space

The Municipal Forest Park of Serra da Carregueira covers a significant area of over 20 hectares, establishing itself as one of the important green lungs of the municipality of Sintra. Designed for the enjoyment of nature, this space aims to preserve its natural resources while allowing for their conscious exploration. It is a place that offers a refuge of tranquility and biodiversity, contributing to the environmental quality of the region.

Trails and Water Environment

Inside the park, a network of pedestrian and cycling paths extends for approximately three kilometers, inviting walks and outdoor activities. The Belas Stream, one of the tributaries of the Jamor River, winds through the park, enriching the landscape with its watercourse. Requalification works were carried out along the stream, which included redesigning its bed and planting various plant species. The trails follow the course of the stream, and a wooden bridge allows for safe crossing, connecting both banks and improving circulation within the park.

Conception and Environment

The project for the Municipal Forest Park of Serra da Carregueira, authored by architect Sidónio Pardal, stands out for its harmonious integration with the natural surroundings. The park was designed as a free and accessible space, offering a serene and inviting environment. Its creation established a new centrality in the Belas area, providing a meeting point with the natural environment and promoting the connection between the urban area and the forest richness of the Serra da Carregueira.
