The Atelier do Brinquedo is located within Choupal Park, a green space that offers a serene environment conducive to leisure. This location, in the Santa Maria and São Pedro area of Torres Vedras, places the atelier in an urban area yet with the tranquility of a park, facilitating a pleasant visit for its visitors.
This space houses a remarkable collection of toys, a significant collection that has belonged to the municipality of Torres Vedras since 2015. Its origin lies, in large part, in the personal collection of collector Octávio Neves, an enthusiast who dedicated his life to gathering these objects. The acquisition and public display of this collection reflect a commitment to preserving memory and the culture of play.
The atelier's main exhibition, named Land of Toys, brings together around one hundred and seventy pieces from a universe of thousands. These toys, ranging from dolls and robots to cars, airplanes, and teddy bears, serve as a fascinating testament to play practices that have spanned different eras and geographies. Each object is a reflection of the societies that created and used it, mirroring their ways of life, technical advancements, and the passions of each era, thus revealing a piece of human history.
More than a mere exhibition space, the Atelier do Brinquedo is a point of reflection on the importance of play and how play is a transversal element that connects generations. The environment invites visitors to an experience that goes beyond simple observation, stimulating the rediscovery of the essence of play. This place provides a deeper understanding of the cultural and social role of toys over time, inviting a more conscious interaction with the world of play.
