Parque Fonte das Avencas is located in Amadora, in the Casal da Mira area. Positioned between Serra da Mira and the A-da-Beja area, this green space constitutes an important forested area in the municipality. Its urban yet secluded location allows it to serve as a natural lung, offering a welcome break from the city pace.
Inaugurated in 2018, after a rehabilitation process, Parque Fonte das Avencas covers an area of approximately 4.5 hectares. Its creation had the primary objective of returning a vast natural space to the community, transforming an old property into a pleasant place of well-being. It is an invitation to connect with nature, providing moments of tranquility and harmony, away from the hustle and bustle of urban daily life.
This park invites visitors to engage in various outdoor activities. It features trails that wind through the vegetation, ideal for both relaxing walks and more challenging mountain bike routes. Along its paths, there are garden benches inviting rest. For picnics or simply to enjoy outdoor socializing, there is a flat area, served by channeled water tanks. Families with children can count on a playground, designed for the enjoyment of the youngest.
Parque Fonte das Avencas carries with it an interesting history linked to water. Formerly, this place was the headquarters of a water bottling company, with the water mines playing a central role in that industrial activity. During the rehabilitation, there was a concern to preserve this memory of the past, maintaining the mines and redeveloping the two urban buildings that once served as a warehouse and offices. This fusion between the natural space and the industrial legacy offers a unique perspective on the evolution of the site.
