The Montes Claros Garden is located in the city of Lisbon, nestled on the southern slope of the Monsanto Mountain Range, in the Montes Claros area. Its location offers a tranquil refuge, away from the faster pace of the urban center, providing an environment where nature can be felt in its pure and pleasant form in the heart of the capital.

A Design with History

The conception of the Montes Claros Garden dates back to the 1940s, a result of the work of architect Francisco Keil do Amaral. This space was planned as an integral part of a larger project for the Monsanto Forest Park, showcasing the landscape architect's expertise. His vision created a remarkable green sanctuary, characterized by a geometric organization that harmoniously integrates with the naturally exuberant character of the surrounding mountain range.

Paths and Green Spaces

With an area of approximately sixteen thousand square meters, the garden unfolds into different environments. One of its distinctive features is the presence of a sizable rectangular lake, which extends throughout the space, culminating in an elegant stone and iron pergola. The garden's design develops on two distinct levels: a first level, closer to the lake, with vast lawns and trees, and a second tier, accessible by staircase, which features gravel paths and landscaped areas. Here, wooden benches under the shade of trees invite moments of pause and contemplation.

A Glimpse of the Landscape

Despite the natural evolution of vegetation over the years having limited some of the broader views, the Montes Claros Garden maintains interesting observation points. From the area near the pergola, it is possible to view the mouth of the Tagus River and the silhouette of Cova do Vapor, already on the south bank. This setting offers a different perspective of the city and its surroundings, inviting a moment of serenity while observing the confluence of the river with the ocean.
