Molhe Leste Beach is located on the Atlantic coast of Peniche, Portugal. It is situated on the southern slope of the Peniche peninsula, in the area known as Molhe Leste, next to the village of Supertubos. Its position is marked by the presence of an extensive jetty that extends into the ocean, defining one of its borders and serving as a landmark in the coastal landscape.
The history of this beach is linked to the process of the formation of the Peniche peninsula. The site observed today resulted from a slow geographical transformation that converted an ancient island into a peninsula through the accumulation of sands that formed a dune cordon. This process, initiated after the Neolithic period and with a notable evolution in the Middle Ages, gave rise to a landscape that, from a lagoonal one, became the current alluvial plain. Already in the 20th century, human interventions, such as the construction of the jetty that delimits the beach and the development of Peniche's port infrastructures, consolidated the current coastal configuration, significantly shaping the landscape.
Molhe Leste Beach offers a considerable sandy area, inviting to those seeking contact with the sea. Its waters, often dynamic, are particularly appreciated by those who practice water sports, being a recognized spot for surfing due to the sea conditions. Near one of the beach's ends, next to the jetty, the S. Domingos River flows into the sea, a natural feature that gives the place a particular characteristic. The jetty itself, hundreds of meters long, offers a wide perspective over the sandy area and the ocean.
