Polvoeira Beach is located in the village of Pedra do Ouro, within the municipality of Alcobaça, and is part of the area known as Polvoeira Beach. This beach, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, is situated in a wide bay on the Portuguese coast, offering a characteristic coastal environment.
Distinguished by its extensive sandy beach, stretching for approximately 1.3 kilometers, Polvoeira Beach offers a vast area. At the southern end, the landscape is marked by a natural rock formation, whose shape evokes the image of a breakwater. To the east, coastal dunes separate the sandy area from a pedestrian path that runs parallel to the coastline, ideal for walks. Access to the sand, in the northern part, is via a long wooden staircase, which offers a comprehensive view of the beach.
The environment of Polvoeira reflects the influence of the Atlantic and its marine biodiversity. The rocky areas of the beach serve as a refuge for various aquatic species, such as crabs, sea slugs, and limpets. This coastal ecosystem offers an opportunity for observing local marine life, revealing the natural richness of the area.
The name "Polvoeira" has a popular origin and is associated with the belief that, in times past, the beach was abundant in octopuses, especially visible on the rocks during low tide. This historical particularity gives the place a cultural significance, connecting it to the fishing traditions of the region.
