The Quinta do Furadouro Biodiversity Station is located in the Casal da Arruda area, part of Olho Marinho, in the municipality of Óbidos. It is situated in an environment that connects more urbanized areas with natural spaces, offering a place of tranquility and contact with the local landscape.
This biodiversity station was conceived as an invitation to explore nature. Here, visitors will find short walking trails, carefully marked by nine informative panels. These panels serve as an accessible on-site guide, highlighting the biological diversity that can be observed, with special attention to species of insects and plants which are key elements of forest ecosystems.
Quinta do Furadouro boasts a history dating back to the 11th century, bearing witness to a past of cultural and, in other eras, economic values. Currently, this site is recognized for its importance as a natural area, emphasizing its crucial role in the conservation of various species. The station thus represents a link between the heritage built over centuries and the vitality of the biodiversity that is preserved and studied.
More than just a place for mere observation, the Quinta do Furadouro Biodiversity Station encourages visitors to actively participate. Those who walk here can contribute to the knowledge of nature by recording their own observations, either through photography or simply by visual sighting. This practice, known as "citizen science", allows for sharing discoveries and enriching the collective understanding of the flora and fauna present in this natural space.
