The São Pedro Church Museum Nucleus is located in the charming town of Óbidos, in the Leiria region.
The church showcases a religious architecture that blends Baroque, Neoclassical, and Eclectic styles, providing a fascinating visual experience.
Built in the 17th and 18th centuries, the church survived considerable damage caused by the 1755 earthquake, with only the vestige of the old portal remaining on the facade.
Be sure to admire the main altar, adorned with a magnificent Baroque altarpiece in gilded wood carvings.
Originally, the church was a Gothic basilica from the 13th and 14th centuries, with details such as a porch and a staircase on the main exterior portico. It also served as the Seat of the Collegiate Church of S. Pedro.
The church houses a remarkable altarpiece of Saint Peter painted by João da Costa, a work of art that deserves appreciation.
