The museum is located in Casal de Além, a small area belonging to Vila Facaia, in the municipality of Pedrógão Grande. This space is housed in the former primary school of the locality, giving it a genuine atmosphere and integrating it into the community life of this rural area.
This museum houses a vast collection of instruments, notably hundreds of accordions and concertinas. The collection is remarkable for its diversity, including pieces from various countries such as Belgium, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal, and Russia. Among the instruments on display are 19th-century examples, as well as rare and handcrafted pieces. The collection also includes other musical instruments, such as tubas, harps, pianos, clarinets, and trumpets, which complement the auditory experience.
The creation of this museum resulted from the initiative and passion of a private collector, Augusto Neves, a local native with a remarkable dedication to these instruments. The museum opened in 2016, realizing the dream of sharing this collection with the public. It is worth noting that this is the only museum of its kind in Portugal, giving it a particular cultural and historical value in the country's musical landscape. The first piece to join this collection was an accordion from the renowned Italian brand Paolo Soprani.
