The Ortigosa Museum of Sacred Art is serenely situated in the locality of Ortigosa, part of the municipality of Leiria. This cultural space is harmoniously integrated within the parish church itself, a building that stands out in the Relva area. Its unique location within the local religious architecture offers an authentic experience, allowing visitors a direct connection with the community's heritage.
At the heart of the museum, a remarkable collection of sacred art is discovered. Over two hundred pieces comprise this collection, covering a period from the 17th century to the present day. The collection is diverse, featuring everything from detailed sculptures and precious pieces of gold and silver work, to rich vestments and historically valuable documents. The exhibition itinerary guides visitors through crucial themes, such as the genesis of the original hermitage, dated 1610, the importance of the pilgrimage to Santo Amaro, and the richness of the religious heritage that shaped the region over the centuries.
Beyond the exhibited artistic wealth, the museum provides a unique opportunity to observe the surrounding landscape of Ortigosa. Visitors can access the interior of the church's bell towers. From this privileged vantage point, a wide panoramic view of the parish unfolds, revealing its geographical characteristics and the layout of its houses. This view offers a distinct and memorable perspective on the area.
