The Barata Feyo Museum is located in a central area of Caldas da Rainha, in the zone known as Avenal, part of the locality of Nossa Senhora do Pópulo. Its position is privileged, situated close to the renowned D. Carlos I Park, one of the city's main green spaces.
This museum is integrated into the Centro de Artes complex, a cultural hub that brings together various facilities in the city, providing an environment conducive to artistic and cultural enjoyment for visitors to Caldas da Rainha.
The museum is entirely dedicated to the work of Salvador Barata Feyo (1890-1990), a prominent figure in 20th-century Portuguese sculpture. Recognized for his mastery as a sculptor, pedagogue, and essayist, Barata Feyo left a significant legacy distinguished by the rigorous expression and formal precision of his creations.
The collection exhibited in the museum offers a comprehensive view of his artistic production, organized into three main categories: his distinct portraits, the significant religious sculptures, and the imposing official sculptures. His work is also associated with the so-called "Escola do Porto" (Porto School), an important artistic movement of the era.
The architecture of the Barata Feyo Museum is, in itself, an element of interest. The space was conceived by the architect António Barata Feyo, the sculptor's own son, creating a dialogue between the art on display and the place that houses it. The inauguration took place in May 2004, a milestone in the valorization of the artist's work.
The building's design provides a contemporary environment suitable for contemplating the various sculptural pieces. The way the works are presented allows visitors to appreciate the detail and depth of Salvador Barata Feyo's work, highlighting his style and his importance in Portuguese sculpture.
