The windmill stands on the highest point of the Serra da Portela, next to the locality of Pousaflores, in the municipality of Ansião. It is surrounded by a rural landscape, marked by dirt tracks and Mediterranean vegetation.
In the vicinity, there is a viewpoint equipped with a sundial and a small picnic area, where one can appreciate a wide view over valleys and undulating horizons.
This traditional windmill was designed to produce flour through wind power, using a wooden structure clad with vertical planks and a metal roof. The ingenious rotating housing allows the sails to be oriented according to the wind direction.
Although currently deactivated and with restricted access to the interior, the building remains in good condition, highlighting the contrast between the rustic body of the mill and the white of the millstone placed next to the circular stone base.
Upon arrival, you will find a peaceful setting, ideal for those exploring the mountains on foot or by bicycle. The constant wind suggests bringing a light jacket, even on warm days.
The location offers excellent conditions for photography: the silhouette of the windmill against the sky and the country expanse in the background provide an attractive natural framing.
