Lagoa Pequena is located in Arrimal, a locality in the municipality of Porto de Mós, in the area known as Outeiro. Its unique presence is integrated into the village environment, extending near the main street of the parish. This characteristic makes it an accessible point of interest, where nature harmonizes with the local urban fabric, allowing for a peaceful observation of the landscape and the surrounding environment.
This small lagoon results from a fascinating natural process: it forms through slight depressions in the soil surface that allow for the accumulation of rainwater. In addition to the direct contribution of rain, Lagoa Pequena is also fed by water courses originating from the locality of Mendiga, thus ensuring its existence and vitality throughout the seasons.
One of Lagoa Pequena's most distinctive features are the small limestone wells scattered along its extent and along the main street of the parish. These structures, made with the predominant rock in the region, not only add a rustic and traditional touch to the landscape but also evoke a historical connection of the community with the management and utilization of its water resources.
Despite its size, Lagoa Pequena constitutes a refuge for a diversity of animal species. Its waters and banks are home to birds such as the common moorhen and the little grebe, which can be seen swimming or foraging. It is also a habitat for amphibians like the common toad and the green frog, and for aquatic reptiles like the grass snake, offering visitors an opportunity to observe the local fauna in a serene environment.
