Dating back to the 17th century, this ancient fountain, sometimes also known as the Fountain of the Grotesque Masks or the Large Fountain, stands as an element with a long history in the city of Leiria. Throughout the centuries, it played a crucial role in supplying water to the population and animals, marking a meeting point and a place of utility for the region's inhabitants. Its enduring presence is a testament to the daily life and urban development of the city.
The Fountain of the 3 Spouts displays a Baroque aesthetic, visible in its details. The central element is a generously sized basin, from which three classic grotesque masks rise, sculptures with expressive faces from which water spouts. In the lower part, there are two drinking troughs that once served animals. In front of the fountain, a small balustrade with quatrefoil motifs surrounds the access steps, lending additional charm to the structure. Finally, at the top, above the grotesque masks, stands a statue of Saint Anthony, a detail that enriches the sculptural ensemble of the site.
