, Born in Casal do Rei, just 8 kilometers from Alcobaça, Manuel Vieira Natividade left a significant legacy in the field of archeology, exploring the Jurassic caves of the region and contributing to the study of the Monastery of Alcobaça.
, Graduated from the University of Coimbra, Vieira Natividade dedicated himself to exploring caves and studying the iconography of the tombs of historical figures such as D. Pedro I and D. Inês de Castro. His studies also covered local ethnography and Cistercian tradition.
, Highlights include works such as "Archaeological Route of Alcobaça and Coutos," "Caves of Alcobaça" and "Inês de Castro and Pedro-o-Cru before the Iconography of their Tombs," which enrich the understanding of the region.
, In 1992, the Vieira Natividade House-Museum was established in Rossio de Alcobaça, housing various collections, including archeology, ethnography, plastic arts and more, donated by the family of Vieira Natividade to the Portuguese State.
, Currently under the tutelage of the Ministry of Culture, the House-Museum remains closed to the public due to inadequate conditions. However, efforts are underway to resolve this issue, allowing a visit to the cultural treasures of Vieira Natividade soon.
, In 2019, a protocol was signed between the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and the Municipality of Alcobaça, aiming to improve conditions and enable the opening of the Vieira Natividade House-Museum.
