The Nazaré Cine-Teatro is located in Sítio da Nazaré, the upper part of the village, distinguished by its elevated position and panoramic views over the sea and the iconic beach. The building is situated on Rua Dr. Ruy Rosa, one of the streets in the historic area of Sítio, an area that still preserves its most traditional and authentic character.
The history of the Nazaré Cine-Teatro is deeply linked to the cultural effervescence of the village and its tradition in the field of entertainment. The current building originated from the recovery of the ruins of the old Circus Theatre, a venue that was inaugurated in 1925 but, unfortunately, was destroyed by a fire in the same year.
In 1930, Frederico Pereira acquired the remnants of the structure and undertook its restoration, bringing to life the space known today, initially nicknamed "Casino" by the inhabitants of Nazaré. Over the decades, the property went through various phases and changes of ownership. In 1999, the Nazaré Municipal Council acquired the space with the purpose of modernizing and rehabilitating it. After a comprehensive intervention, the Cine-Teatro reopened its doors in August 2001, marking a new chapter in its history. Throughout its journey, it was also known as "Teatro Cinema Casino Paraíso".
Currently, the Nazaré Cine-Teatro functions as a municipal cultural center dedicated to the promotion of the arts. Its program is varied, hosting a diversity of events that include cinema screenings, musical concerts, dance performances, and theatrical plays. The space serves as a platform for both local artists and larger productions, actively contributing to the community's cultural life.
Regarding its architecture, the building's facade exhibits design elements characteristic of the early 20th century. Inside, the auditorium was designed to provide comfort to the audience and ensure good acoustic quality, creating an environment conducive to the appreciation of the various artistic manifestations presented there.
