The chapel is located in the Serro Ventoso area, in the small village of Chão das Pias, in the municipality of Porto de Mós. It is situated next to an unpaved rural road, on slightly sloping ground, surrounded by stone retaining walls.
This tranquil spot is far from the urban center, set in an environment characterized by scrubland, scattered olive groves, and pasture areas, lending it a serene atmosphere free from intense road noise.
The chapel, dedicated to Saint Sebastian, reflects the tradition of small rural hermitages erected by local communities, possibly throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. These spaces served as occasional places of prayer, especially during times of drought or plague, when the saint's intercession was sought.
The simple contrast between the rustic masonry and the smoothness of the white plaster suggests various phases of construction and maintenance, yet maintaining its original design and inherent modest character.
The compact volume features a reddish ceramic tiled roof, gabled, crowned by a metal cross at the ridge. The dark wooden portal and the small side window allow for a subtle play of interior light, visible only through crevices.
In the immediate surroundings, the contrast between the warm tone of the tiles, the striking white of the plaster, and the irregular grey of the stones lends a spontaneous charm, perfect for those who appreciate simple architectural details and the calm atmosphere of the countryside.
