The Chapel of São Miguel is located in Pessegueiro, next to the locality of Pousaflores, in the municipality of Ansião. Nestled in a landscape of cultivated fields and stone walls, it appears isolated on a slight elevation that makes it visible to those passing by the rural road.
Access is via narrow paths of cobblestone and packed earth, surrounded by olive and cork trees. The surroundings contribute to a sense of tranquility, where the blue of the sky is reflected in the white facade of the chapel.
Registered in 1848 by the ethnographer Dr. Costa Simões as one of the public chapels in the parish, São Miguel has maintained its modest character over the centuries. Intended for local worship, it hosted liturgical celebrations until the mid-20th century.
Although it does not have grand architectural timelines, it preserves its original layout, a testament to the community's devotion to the archangels. The church today functions as an informal meeting point for local religious festivals.
The simplicity of construction is revealed in the singular facade: a whitewashed wall, a wooden door with a perfect semicircular arch, and a base of local stonework. At the top of the eaves, a small stone cross marks its sacred vocation.
The gabled roof, covered with traditional ceramic tiles, contrasts with the small vegetation growing on the low surrounding walls. It is a space conducive to photographic records, especially with the golden light of late afternoon.
