The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Miracles is located at the highest point of the village of Figueiró dos Vinhos, in the municipality of the same name, reaching an altitude of 539 meters. It is specifically situated in Bairro do Areal, an integral part of the locality of Ribeiro Travesso.

Its prominent position, at the top of Cabeço do Peão, gives it a distinguished role in the surrounding landscape, being a visible and accessible landmark that rises above the village.

Origin and History:

This place of worship was built on the initiative of a local benefactor, António Lopes de Paiva, a native of Figueiró dos Vinhos. The construction of the chapel began in 1900, reflecting his dedication and contribution to the community.

The chapel was inaugurated on July 27, 1903. A curious fact is that its opening to the public was initially planned for June 13, the day dedicated to Saint Anthony, but it was postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The property of the building remains, to this day, in the possession of the founder's descendants.

Devotion and Legacy:

The chapel is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Miracles, a religious figure in whose honor the temple was erected. Inside, it houses an image of the saint which, although not remarkable for its particular artistic value, is the focus of devotion and a central element of the space.

The annual feast in honor of Saint Anthony of Miracles is celebrated on June 13th. This is a day of great significance for the community, marking a strong connection to this figure and keeping a local tradition alive.
